Remedial Offshore is building two ESV™ hybrid rig/vessels in China, one each at Raffles Yantai Shipyards and Cosco (Nantong) Shipyards.
Each ESV™ unit functions like a jack-up rig and a self-propelled vessel. Building on the basic foundation of jack-up drilling rig design, each ESV™ unit is equipped with:
- Industry-Leading Crane Capacity -- Each vessel carries a FAVCO PC300 pedestal crane mounted on an elevated skidding structure or base. This 280MT main crane, similar to those commonly used aboard tender vessels, facilitates heavy-lift operations when the unit is elevated.
- Large-capacity Support Cranes-- Each ESV unit also carries two smaller, 50 MT pedestal cranes to handle high-capacity lifts (e.g., heavyweight reels for coiled tubing drilling).
- More Usable Deck Space-- Our modified design increases available deck space compared to typical jack-up rigs. The main crane is elevated, so its footprint combined with open deck yields 1060 m2 (11,400 ft2 ) of usable rig-up space. The ESV design also offers 370 m2 (4,000 ft2) of below-deck storage space.
- Large Accommodations -- The two-galleyaccommodation block provides housing for up to 120 persons, with ~80 beds available for operating company representatives and third-party contractors.
- Self-Propelled (DP-1) -- Unlike jack-up rigs, ESV units are self-propelled. Three azimuthing thrusters facilitate in-field moves without the need for anchor handlers, survey vessels and tug-boat support.
- Self-Elevating -- Jacking-up on legs provides vertical alignment between the ESV deck and well platform, reducing operational and safety risks associated with crane lifts and well intervention operations. Rated for depths of 100 m/325 ft or more in calm waters (90 m/300 ft in harsh sea states), ESV units are ideal for shallow-water oil & gas fields worldwide.
- “Doubles” Workover Rig (and top-drive) -- The workover rig package facilitates heavy well intervention and other remedial operations to increase production. The rig can be deployed in lift-off or cantilever mode.
- Multi-Band Sonar -- Each ESV unit is equipped with multi-band "bottom-mapping" sonar technology. This allows precision leg placement to avoid pipelines, "can holes" and other subsea hazards while positioning the vessel in close proximity to a well platform.
